Mission Moments

Second Harvest Mobile Food Pantry

The Mobile Food Pantry is a vital food distribution program that Second Harvest provides throughout its eight-county region. We have all probably seen one of the food bank’s trucks which carries nutritious food to our region’s most remote areas where there is little to no access to traditional food pantries. With over 70 distribution sites, these food distributions help individuals, families, veterans and seniors experiencing hunger around our region. Help us keep these trucks on the road with your financial support.

Second Harvest’s Children’s Programs

Children who miss meals are more likely to have problems concentrating and learning in school. They will also have trouble socializing and functioning in other situations. Lack of nutrition NOW affects their PRESENT and their FUTURE. Second Harvest’s Children Programs make a difference for these kids. 1 in 5 children in Northeast Tennessee are experiencing hunger and food insecurity.

  • The Food for Kids Backpack Program provides take-home bags of easily prepared meals and healthy snacks twice a month during the school year as well as healthy food boxes for their entire family before holidays and school breaks.
  • The Summer Food Service Program takes over at the end of each school year by providing nutritious weekday meals at sites where children can gather during the long summer break.

Senior Grocery Home Delivery

There are more than 11,000 senior citizens in Northeast Tennessee who are food insecure. Many of them struggle to access food because of transportation or mobility issues as well as housing and medical costs. These seniors too often have to choose between putting food on the table or purchasing much needed medicine or paying a utility bill. Second Harvest distributes food to Senior Centers across our service area but we also make deliveries to home-bound seniors who are in rural and isolated areas. The Senior Grocery Home Delivery Program provides food door-to-door for about 200 senior homes

Special thanks to Kristy Haynes, Janet Mitchel, and Shelby Richardson for help soliciting auction items.
