Job description

Neighborhood Empowerment Coordinator

Second Harvest Food Bank of Northeast TN (SHFBNETN)is looking for an outgoing, energetic leader interested in helping identify voices of lived experience in our region for a new initiative. The job will involve some travel throughout the 8-county region as the coordinator will be interviewing current and former food bank clients for an advocacy program SHFBNETN is launching this fall.

The coordinator will also do the following:

Organize and conduct community listening sessions throughout our 8-county service area;

Use listening sessions to identify neighbors of lived experience, and coordinate neighbor training in advocacy methods;

Collect stories of our neighbors to help advocate for food assistance programs;

Provide Feeding America training on advocacy efforts to neighbors;

Support neighbor-advocates undertaking specific policy and campaign actions;

Coordinate appropriate compensation for neighbor-advocates;

Provide reports to Feeding America on progress of neighbor-advocates;

Work with Community Relations Manager and Advocacy Manager to implement Neighborhood Empowerment work through existing SHFBNETN programs.

Skills and Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree required. The ideal candidate will have a back ground in community relations, marketing, social work, advocacy, storytelling or English. Strong writing skills needed, and experience with videography and editing a plus. Salary will depend upon experience and background. Lived experience welcomed but not required.

Job Type: Full-time

Salary: $16.00 – $18.00 per hour

Schedule:

  • Day shift
  • Monday to Friday
